Okay, Monk amuses me.
In one episode, when Monk wanted to fast-forward something on TV, he said to his assistant, "PICTURE GO FASTER...PICTURE GO FASTER!" That is where I am with my writing. I want it to go faster. I want to be done editing. Revisions are taking much longer than I expected. Don't get me wrong--I am excited with each change, and I can feel the novel getting better. But I am salivating over having something, anything (great) to query. And I really want to move on to my next idea.
So: WRITING GO FASTER! WRITING GO FASTER!
And, of course, I'll stick it out. In the meantime, anyone else feel this way?
Completely feel that way all of the time. =)
ReplyDeleteI'm about a third of the way through my first revision of my wip, so I have a looong way to go. But I think it's a good novel, I can see it being a successful query, and it's sooo hard to wait! But yes.. waiting will make it a much better novel.
Anne--a third done is a third done, right? As long as there is forward momentum, you're doing great.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know that I'm not alone!
I feel like this with every novel, both because I want them to get out there and have their shot at getting picked up, and because, just like when I read, I can't wait to see how the stories turn out!
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is, when I really am done, I miss them--I miss being there, in that world, with those characters, and I miss the excitement of discovery at the twists and turns.
I always feel this way, but I learned the hard way that it's better to take my time and get it right (or as close to right as I can make it) before I start sending queries.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this all the time!
ReplyDeleteAnd also, Monk and Psych are my two favorite shows of all time!
Robyn-- I know that I will miss these characters when I am finished. I am really entrenched in their world.
ReplyDeletePaul--Ouch. Those lessons can be tough. It is really hard to wait to query.
Larissa--I agree. Psych is great.
Yes, please - FASTER!
ReplyDeleteAnd then I realize that I need to do yet another round of edits...
Maybe I should have named this post Edit Go Faster! You're right, Sarah, there always seems to be another round to do.
