Monday Meeting

Per Anita's prompt, here is my workspace. I'd like to point out the egg timer (courtesy of Anna's suggestion), a book that Tina referenced in her recent interview, the webcam that allowed me to talk cross country to my writing partner Robert this afternoon, and the dirty dishes stacked up on the counter around the corner. I did not straighten up for this photo! And my inspiration--a picture of my three kids standing at a sign at Walden Pond, which reads;

I WENT TO THE WOODS BECAUSE I WISHED TO LIVE DELIBERATELY, TO FRONT ONLY THE ESSENTIAL FACTS OF LIFE. AND SEE IF I COULD NOT LEARN WHAT IT HAD TO TEACH AND NOT, WHEN I CAME TO DIE, DISCOVER THAT I HAD NOT LIVED.--THOREAU

My workspace is right in the central traffic station of the house, and frequently, it attracts some unsavory characters.

Now that you've gotten your peek, on to the business at hand.

The Monday Meeting:

I am very happy with my writing rhythm, and would like to keep it up. I'd like to continue with my revisions on the Middle Grade novel, and I feel like I am making solid progress. So, my goal is to keep up the momentum. To keep rising early to write, and to keep my writing and writerly friends in the front of my mind. Balance is hard to maintain, but I think that I'm getting there.

I want to say a big welcome to all my new followers, but specifically to my friends Robert and Kerry. These two provide my days with support and focus.

And I invite you all to the Friday Feature interview this week. I will feature the interesting and fun A. Grey, who is querying a YA manuscript as we speak. I encourage you to stop by her blog, and do some research, so you can ask her a killer question!

So, are you finding balance in your life? What goals do you have this week? Did you clean up before posting your writing spot picture?

  1. Cool! I've just put up my space, minus the cute unsavory characters! I'm liking peeking at everyone's spaces.

  2. That looks like a cute and cozy working space, especially with those adorable kiddos for company! :-)

  3. I am finding balance this week, slowly, but surely. I am working on grasping the concept of time management and staying away from Facebook.

My goals for this week involve gaining another fifty followers. Ha, so kidding. My goals are to regain interest in my writing. YES!

Clearly, I did not clean up before my workspace photo.

I'm glad you found an opportunity to post.

  4. Oops, seems I missed the memo about posting pics of your workspace today! I'll try to do that on Wednesday.

Your unsavory characters are adorable, by the way. :-)

My goal for the week is to revise, revise, revise and hopefully send my fairy tale retelling to my agent by next week. We'll see how it goes...

  5. Terry--I really enjoyed your incredible view. I too, like peeking at people's spaces. Then I can picture them working there. It's fun.

  6. Well, I have a good excuse. I'm not at home. So I couldn't take a picture of my workspace. Darn it all. ;)

I'm glad that waking early in the morning is working for you!! Keep it up.

  7. Oh, I missed the workspace prompt, too. :( Love yours, though! The unsavory characters are adorable!

By the way, I just gave you a blog award! http://lchardesty.blogspot.com/2010/01/my-first-blog-award.html

  8. Thank you for this peek! I heart your space and the kiddos are adorable.

Regarding balance: Oldest Daughter recently informed me that I've reached self-actualization, because I really do have everything that I ever wanted. It's hard not to find balance when you feel that way...it's kind of like saying, "Whatever" to things, but in a grateful, heartfelt way. If I ever get published, it'd just be gravy on a great life.

  9. I love seeing this! Oh, it's good to have your workspace in the middle of it all. It does explain why we need each other!

  10. I have similar unsavory characters around my workspace occasionally. Gotta love 'em! :)
I do agree that balance is hard to do sometimes. I keep telling myself I need a schedule to stick to....

  11. Nice photos of your workspace. My workspace this week is the room I slept in for most of my teenage years.

I'm glad you are getting into the writing groove. Mine's definitely been knocked off kilter by being so far away from home, not sleeping well, and visiting relatives. I'm hoping to rise early tomorrow and get a couple hours of writing in before all the activity starts up but it's already midnight. This four hour time change is throwing me around.

I hope you have a great writing week!!

  12. Shannon--I got sucked into your I Believe posts--they are incredible.

Many days I find myself typing with a kiddo on my lap...

  13. Laura--When you get back, I hope you'll share. The getting up early is definitely helping my writing goals. But, not my watching of 24. I snoozed through the episode last night!

  14. Anita--thanks for spurring this all on--it's so much fun to see where everyone writes.

And, what an awesome thing to realize about your life! Oldest Daughter sounds amazing.

  15. Tina--I know, I like seeing these pictures too. It's such a nice glimpse into people's lives. And, yes, I think it explains a bit.

  16. Kelly--when I saw your work area, I wanted to curl up with Daisy and take a nap. It looks so comfy!

  17. Paul--I wish you the best for getting writing done while visiting family. It's so hard. Good luck!

  18. Balance? What's that? :-)

Acrually, I think I'm getting closer to finding it. Sort of. Or maybe my life is meant to be about the eternal search for balance.

Still working on the questions you sent me oh so long ago.

  19. What a great writing spot. I saw this idea on Kelly's blog yesterday and took a picture of mine. Now to find the time to post it... Or even get it off the camera...

  20. Sarah--Balance may just be over-rated. Especially for those people who enthusiastically jump into things. And, I'm glad you mentioned the questions--I thought maybe you had sent answers and I had lost them. Take your time. Then number one rule is that it doesn't add stress to your life!

  21. Elana--I'm glad you like it. I really do like that it is in the center of things--we have an office, but I don't want to write so far removed from the action. I need eyes and ears on the kids at all times. I can't wait to see your workspace!

  22. Anna--somehow I skipped responding to your comment. A thousand apologies! Good luck getting the revision done this week. That is very exciting--sending your fairytale retelling to your agent. I hope she loves it!

  23. 57 ain't just for Heinz anymore, Kelly. I'm on yo tail.

  24. There are traitors among us. And yet, I press on!

  25. Rather neat, in comparison to mine at the moment. But I've got a big office to sprawl out in. And the egg timer's probably a good idea.
